Since the beginning of civilization, human beings have wanted to leave a record of their knowledge so that it could be used by future generations. In the age of orality they recorded knowledge in pictorial form on walls, their beliefs and their way of life; later on tablets and other materials; with the agricultural revolution they recorded it in manuscripts, with the industrial revolution they invented the printing press, giving rise to the printed book and a greater dissemination of knowledge, and with the computer revolution they moved up to virtual information.
