The book “Experiences and tools of social responsibility for SMEs” edited by Dr. Jeannette Valverde Chaves, academic and researcher at the School of International Relations, provides a comprehensive overview of the alternatives available to these productive units in terms of Social Responsibility (SR) management. From this perspective, SR becomes a tool aimed at consolidating these units and establishing their projection in the national and international market. For this reason, through valuable contributions from authors from different countries, the aim is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the usefulness of SR, taking into consideration the different socioeconomic and political contexts in which SMEs in the region operate. In this sense, the text addresses the principles of the economy of the common good, and also delves into practices aimed at increasing efficiency in the management of these organizations such as participation in linkages, financial practices such as leasing, including communication strategies such as reporting, and then analyzes case studies in Mexico and Argentina on the management of these organizations in fields such as innovation and sustainable development. From this perspective, the School of International Relations, thanks to the work of its academic staff, aspires to continue in the effort to generate concerns and proposals both within the National University of Costa Rica and in the public and private sectors of our country. In this sense, our study plans have incorporated the teaching of Social Responsibility as a response to the challenges posed by the current economic system and the dynamics within complex areas such as international trade. In this way, this publication is one more effort of our university to build rigorous and updated knowledge, to provide spaces for academic analysis and, therefore, to contribute to the construction of a more inclusive and competitive society. For these reasons, from the Direction of our School, we express our deep gratitude to the collaborators for their effort and dedication in the contributions provided. We hope to have in the future new challenges and proposals in this field, which will allow us to expand the capacity of our National University to be every day an engine for the improvement of Costa Rican society.
