Pasantía en medicina interna y cirugía de pequeñas especies, en el Hospital Veterinario San Antonio, Heredia, Costa Rica

Resumen
Se realizó una pasantía en el Hospital Veterinario San Antonio (HVSA),
ubicado en San Antonio de Belén, Heredia, Costa Rica. Dicha pasantía tuvo una
duración de ocho semanas, con un total de 388 horas laboradas con rotación de
horarios, se realizó en el periodo comprendido entre el 24 de mayo al 20 de julio
de 2021.
Se participó en el abordaje y atención de 175 pacientes, de los cuales el
86,3% correspondió a caninos (151 casos) y el restante 13,7% a felinos (24
casos). Los casos registrados se clasificaron en dos áreas según su abordaje
médico; medicina interna y cirugía, correspondientes al 79,4% (139 casos) y
20,6% (36 casos) respectivamente.
La selección adecuada de los exámenes complementarios junto a la
anamnesis y un correcto examen objetivo general, permitieron un adecuado
diagnóstico de las patologías presentadas por los pacientes. En total se
realizaron 709 pruebas complementarias y dentro de las más utilizadas se
encuentran: hematología (24,8%), ultrasonido (24,7%) y bioquímica sanguínea
(20,3%).
An internship was carried out at the Hospital Veterinario San Antonio (HVSA), located in San Antonio de Belén, Heredia, Costa Rica. This internship lasted eight weeks, with a total of 388 hours worked with rotation of schedules and carried out in the period from May 24 to July 20, 2021. The student participated in the approach and care of 175 patients, of which 86.3% corresponded to canines (151 cases) and the remaining 13.7% to felines (24 cases). Registered cases were classified into two areas according to their medical approach: internal medicine and surgery, corresponding to 79.4% (139 cases) and 20.6% (36 cases) respectively. The adequate selection of the complementary examinations together with the anamnesis and a correct general objective examination, allowed an adequate diagnosis of the pathologies presented by the patients. In total, 709 complementary tests were carried out and among the most used were: hematology (24.8%), ultrasound (24.7%) and blood chemistry (20.3%).
