An internship was carried out between August 30th and December 4th, 2021, in eight farms advised by Dr. Frank Hueckmann Voss, located in Vara Blanca, Poasito and Los Cartagos, with the purpose of strengthening the capacities and knowledge related to herd health management in cattle from specialized dairy farms. Of the 1973 activities carried out, 1424 were in cows and heifers and 549 in calves. In the latter, the serum total protein (STP) was measured in 156 individuals, of which 69.9% (109/156) had a STP greater than 6.2 g/dl (excellent), 4.5% (7/156) obtained a STP between 5.8-6.1g /dl (good), 12.2% (19/156), between 5.1 and 5.7 g/dl (fair) and 13.5% (21/156) a value less than 5.1g/dl (poor). In addition, 297 cases of diseases were diagnosed and treated, of which the most common were pneumonia with 59.6% (177/297) and diarrhea with 36.7% (109/297). Also, it was collaborated in 48 dehorning, 45 fecal sampling and three necropsies. The activities that were performed in cows and heifers were 1,004 reproductive diagnoses, 114 dry off therapies, four necropsies, two surgeries and the main pathologies diagnosed and treated were lameness with 42.7% (128/300), mastitis with 24.7% (74/300) and diseases of the reproductive system with 20.7% (62/300). Additionally, the internship continued, between April 4 and May 29, 2022, at the Bovine Clinic of the Hannover University of Veterinary Medicine. Here I had the opportunity to participate in 306 activities, which are broken down into: diagnosis and treatment of diseases with 51.6% (158/306), reproductive diagnoses with 39.2% (120/306), dehorning with 5.2% (16/306) and surgeries with 3.9% (12/306).
