Education is a right of the elderly, which in Costa Rican legislation is established in the Comprehensive Law of the Elderly Person, Law 7935, and as such, spaces must be provided for the said to be made effective. However, the right to undertake new projects and learning in all areas of life is often hindered by the myths and stereotypes that are socialized about this population group. Not only people in society in general have stereotypes, but even older people themselves reproduce and preserve a social construct of aging and old age as deterioration and losses, which, among other things, considers that older people cannot learn. If we start from the fact that "life is, essentially, learning", we learn throughout our lives, a basic principle of the actions of the Senior Citizens Subcommittee of the National Council of Rectors (CONARE), made up of the coordinators of the 4 programs state university programs aimed at the population of 50 years and over in Costa Rica, in its work to facilitate learning spaces for the elderly and the awareness of other generations. Here we show one of the impacts of such actions. The technique of the Focus Group and the Interview was used to analyze how, through the training of an intergenerational group, the empowerment and development of entrepreneurial initiatives (creation of a cooperative) was achieved, where the elderly person is an active participant / protagonist.
