Resumen
Se presentan los hallazgos, hasta este momento, de un estudio mixto cuyos objetivos son analizar las nuevas estructuras familiares y el lugar en éstas de las personas de 50 años y más (por cohortes), así como determinar las características de las relaciones intergeneracionales. La recopilación de los datos se hizo por medio de una encuesta de percepción, aplicada telefónicamente, a una muestra de 600 personas de 50 años y más, residentes en viviendas particulares en todo el territorio nacional y de la recolección de relatos de vida de jóvenes estudiantes universitarios. Los resultados más sobresalientes demuestran que se impone el modelo de familia nuclear, que gran cantidad de jóvenes estudiantes universitarios no conviven (en la casa donde viven no hay personas adultas mayores) con sus abuelos, más aún, no los conocen. En su mayoría no tienen sus cuatro abuelos(as) vivos(as), siendo la abuela materna la que en la mayoría de los casos está viva y que las personas de 50 años y más están viviendo con sus cónyuges o con hijos(as), pero pocas veces con sus nietos.
