Neospora caninum es un parásito del ganado y de los animales de compañía recientemente reconocido. Hasta 1988 se diagnosticó erróneamente como Toxoplasma gondii (Dubey et al. 1988; Bjerkás & Dubey 1991; Dubey & Linsay 1993). Desde que se reconoció por primera vez en Noruega (Bjerkás et al. 1984), se ha descubierto que la enfermedad causa parálisis en perros en varios continentes, incluidos Europa, África, Austral-Asia, América del Norte y Asia (Dubey 1992). El objetivo de este trabajo es documentar neosporosis y toxoplasmosis fatales en dosis de Costa Rica.
Neospora caninum is a recently recognized parasite of livestock and companion animals. Until 1988, it was misdiagnosed as Toxoplasma gondii (Dubey et al. 1988; Bjerkás & Dubey 1991; Dubey & Linsay 1993). Since it was first recognized in Norway (Bjerkás et al. 1984), the disease has been found to cause paralysis in dogs in several continenets including Europe, Africa, Austral-asia, North America and Asia (Dubey 1992). The objetive of this paper is to document fatal neosporosis and toxoplasmosis in dos from Costa Rica.
