Conservation Biology faces the paradox that, on the one hand, highways facilitate the economic development of territories, but on the other, they have negative impacts on wildlife populations. Achieving social, political, and economic support to implement conservation strategies will first require demonstrating the impact that highways have on these populations. The objective of this work was to determine if the impact of abuses on wildlife populations is currently known for Costa Rica. For this, the most recent publications (2010–2016) on the subject were searched on the Internet. Based on the results obtained, it is concluded that until now the population impact of the abuses in the wild fauna that inhabits the Costa Rican territory is unknown. The work on the subject should be directed as soon as possible to assess the impact indicated and not only to record the number of individuals run over on the roads.
