Resumen
La Universidad Nacional, y específicamente la Biblioteca Joaquín García Monge, con el apoyo de la Asociación Nacional de Sordos de Costa Rica (ANASCOR), en un esfuerzo conjunto para divulgar la Lengua de Señas Costarricense LESCO, han respaldado este proyecto, el cual tiene como propósito crear una herramienta tecnológica que sirva de ayuda a un proceso de información-interacción de la lengua de señas LESCO y la cultura de la población sorda costarricense.
El proyecto tiene como objetivo: analizar, diseñar, desarrollar e implantar un sistema basado en tecnología Web, que permita brindar información acerca de la cultura de la población sorda, explorar y conocer vocabulario básico de la lengua de señas LESCO, la búsqueda de información en un diccionario de señas, traducciones por medio de deletreo manual; todo ello mediante videos, imágenes, fotografías y animaciones presentes en un sitio web y almacenados en una base de datos. Con el propósito de dotar a los funcionarios de la Universidad Nacional y público en general de una herramienta que permita obtener conocimientos básicos en este tema, y de esta forma contribuir a mejorar la interacción con la población sorda de Costa Rica.
La importancia del proyecto consiste en dotar a los funcionarios de la Universidad Nacional y por qué no, a la sociedad en general, de un medio práctico y de fácil consulta para el conocimiento y aprendizaje básico de la Lengua de Señas Costarricense LESCO, además, dar a conocer aspectos generales de la cultura de la población sorda de nuestro país. Contribuyendo con ello a mejorar la comunicación e interacción con este grupo particular. Como principales beneficios del proyecto podemos mencionar: brinda valor agregado a la Universidad Nacional, como una institución que desarrolla proyectos en favor de las personas con necesidades especiales, proyectándose de esta forma hacia la sociedad, además , el conocimiento de la Cultura Sorda y la lengua LESCO por parte del personal docente y administrativo de la universidad va a permitir brindar una mejor atención a esta población, la cual día a día demanda una mejor atención y mayor participación dentro de la sociedad.
