It presents a proposal focused on the creation of a reading promotion extension service through traveling suitcases from the Miriam Álvarez Brenes Children's Library to the children from 1 to 6 years old of the CEN-CINAI (Education and Nutrition Center and Children's Center of Integral Attention of Barrio Corazón de Jesús, Heredia, Costa Rica, The purpose of this extension service is to enable BIMAB (Miriam Álvarez Brenes Children's Library) to support and meet the information needs of the CEN-CINAI, since although it receives a government budget, it must give priority to meeting the basic needs of the center and does not have the budget to purchase books or play materials, which is why the teachers are responsible for preparing materials with color photocopies or cut-outs to carry out the activities. For this service, a proposal was created for 12 traveling suitcases based on different healthy habits, each one with documentary material related to the topic, description of materials and a guide for the development of the activity according to the topic to be addressed in each of the suitcases. It can be concluded that it is of utmost importance that children receive an extension service with traveling suitcases for the promotion of reading, since it allows them to enrich their knowledge and develop different cognitive and motor skills when participating in the activities that accompany this process: motor development, identification of phonemes (language development), pictographic reading comprehension, basis for writing, incentive to creativity, independence and autonomy in decision making and social interaction.
