A 340-hour internship was carried out in two places: the Toyopán Veterinary Clinic and Pharmacy, located in Coronado, and the VEHASA Veterinary Hospital, located in Hatillo. The period included from January 2 to April 12, 2023. The main objective was to strengthen the clinical and surgical skills in small species that were obtained during the years of the career. During that time, I participated in a total of 271 cases distributed between both places, accompanying the medical staff during consultations, patient management, complementary tests, and soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. Among the complementary tests were radiographs, ultrasounds, echocardiograms, complete blood counts, blood biochemical tests, urinalysis, cytology, fluorescein staining, and IVF/FeLV tests, and they were used in 72 cases (26.57%) of the total patients attended. The most frequent reason for consultation were cases of gastrointestinal conditions with 36.25% (29 patients) of the 125 cases of internal medicine and the most performed surgery was sterilization with a total of 17 (45.95%) of the 37 surgical procedures performed. The internship was of great use to strengthen the necessary skills in the work of the veterinarian, in addition, new and interesting things related to internal medicine, preventive medicine and surgery were learned, thus fulfilling the objectives set at the beginning of the work.
