The paper addresses the need to develop and apply quality indicators in teaching, research, and community engagement as part of an institutional strategy aimed at continuous improvement. Identifying these criteria allows us not only to assess the efficiency of these processes but also to demonstrate the public value generated by the National University through its social impact, knowledge production, and contribution to national development. Likewise, it is emphasized that indicators constitute strategic tools for decision-making, as they facilitate planning, monitoring, and accountability based on objective information. A central aspect of the presentation is the importance of aligning these indicators with institutional evaluation processes, so that quality is not conceived solely as a formal requirement, but as a sustained and participatory practice. This involves developing metrics that reflect not only internal performance but also the relevance and impact of the university’s actions on the communities and sectors with which it works. In this regard, university transformation must be grounded in a comprehensive vision of quality, understood as a collective commitment involving students, faculty, researchers, and social actors. This requires innovation in knowledge management, strengthening a culture of accountability, and ensuring that every institutional action contributes to the well-being of Costa Rican society.
