The adaptation of ethnic groups to dissimilar cultural environments is always a painful experience for both the newcomer and the receiving society. The Chinese arrived in 1872 to challenge with their presence a cultural environment that was inhospitable to them from the beginning. Today, after an initial process of confrontation, they have managed to adapt and have become Costa Rican citizens with rights and duties inherent to such condition.
