Desafios de la educación en la sociedad actual

Abstract

El papel de la educación en la formación de los individuos y en el desarrollo de la sociedad es incuestionable. A través de ella se transmite, de generación en generación, conocimientos, cultura, prejuicios, valores, entre otros. Sin embargo, actualmente ella enfrenta diversas situaciones conflictivas que afectan su adecuado desarrollo. La globalización, por ejemplo, ha implicado reformas en la educación a nivel mundial. Las necesidades actuales requieren que la educación responda al mismo ritmo de las transformaciones sociales y culturales. Los ciudadanos del futuro deben ser formados para “enfrentarse” a una totalidad compleja y esta debe orientarse a la formación de valores, de un individuo capaz de enfrentarse a las distintas dificultades y resolver problemas, de un ser más humano y con conciencia ambiental. Los retos que enfrenta la educación son muchos. Plantear soluciones y llevarlas a cabo debe ser un esfuerzo social, conjunto y coordinado. Si la educación mejora la sociedad se desarrolla y el ser humano progresa en sus condiciones, en caso contrario se corre el peligro de seguir anclados en el subdesarrollo, la desigualdad y la incongruencia con las exigencias de la sociedad actual. ¿Cuál es el estado actual de la educación? ¿Cuál es la problemática que la afecta? ¿Qué retos se le plantean? Este ensayo tiene como propósito destacar algunos aspectos sobre el estado actual de la educación a nivel mundial y latinoamericano, señalar ciertos problemas que la afectan y los retos que deben enfrentar en una “educación para el futuro”.

The role of education for an individuals’ and society’s development is unquestionable. It transmits, from generation to generation, knowledge, culture, prejudice, values, among others. However, currently it faces several conflicting situations that affect its development. Globalization, for example, has involved educational reforms around the world. New needs require education to respond at the same rate as do social and cultural transformations. The citizens of the future must be trained to deal with a complex world and it should be directed to the development of values, of an individual who is capable of confronting various difficulties and problems, of a more human and environmental aware being. The challenges facing education are many. To propose solutions and carry them out should be a joint social and coordinated effort. If education is improved, society develops and the human being progresses. Otherwise there is a danger to be anchored to underdevelopment, inequality and inconsistency with the requirements of today's society. What is the current state of education? What is the problem that affects it? What challenges does it face? This article aims at presenting an overview of the current state of education around the world and in Latin America, and pointing out some problems that affect it, and the challenges that an "education for the future" will face.
