Resumen
El Golfo de Nicoya es una de las zonas pesqueras más productivas del país y en donde se realizan la mayoría de descargas de pescado, principalmente en su principal puerto Puntarenas. Este Golfo es también una de las zonas con los mayores problemas sociales y económicos del país y en donde la pesca es su principal actividad económica, pero en su zona de influencia directa se ejecutan otras actividades productivas tales como la agricultura, ganadería, forestales, turismo, minería e industria. Todas esas actividades se han venido ejecutando con pocos controles y es necesario regularlas y manejarlas en forma más integral, en donde se tome en cuenta los factores sociales y económicos, pero también los ambientales. Para esto, se necesita ejecutar un Programa de Manejo Integrado del Golfo de Nicoya, el cual necesita un diagnóstico de sus recursos y este es presentado en el siguiente trabajo de graduación.
