This project involved an internship in buiatrics in the area of the Poás Volcano and Varablanca, Costa Rica, during three months (February, March, and April 2012). Throughout this internship, programmed visits to seventeen dairy farms were carried out; which are included in the visits program of the supervisor. This work is divided in two main areas. One was participating on the visits of the different farms and then classifying the activities depending on the pertinent veterinary attention. The bulk of casuistry was conformed of the herd health area with 1479 cases. The other area of the internship consisted on the evaluation of the calcium, phosphorous and magnesium metabolism in the bovine blood before and after giving birth. For this, 50 animals were used for samples on two rounds: approximately 5 to 10 days before giving birth and 5 to 10 days after giving birth. The results of these samples were processed and classified depending on the amount of animal’s births.
