La traducción de realidades complejas : neutralización, realismo y el rol de la inteligencia artificial en Invisibles, historias de adolescentes que cometieron homicidio

Abstract

Este trabajo de graduación, inscrito en la modalidad de memoria de traducción, forma parte de la Maestría Profesional en Traducción Inglés-Español de la Universidad Nacional. El proyecto se centra en la traducción inversa y neutra de Invisibles, historias de adolescentes que cometieron homicidio1. El estudio toma como corpus las primeras setenta páginas de la novela y dirige la traducción a un público meta angloparlante estadounidense, con el fin de identificar las estrategias más adecuadas para preservar el realismo testimonial de la obra sin sacrificar la comprensión de este público. El objetivo general consiste en una traducción que logre un equilibrio entre neutralización cultural y fidelidad narrativa, apoyándose en objetivos específicos orientados a resolver problemas léxicos, sintácticos y culturales. El marco teórico se fundamenta en la teoría de la equivalencia dinámica de Eugene Nida (1960), implementada por un enfoque funcionalista. La metodología incluyó la traducción inicial, un análisis comparativo entre versiones, la aplicación de técnicas traductológicas y la posedición con herramientas de inteligencia artificial, así como la validación mediante la retroalimentación de revisores externos. Los resultados evidencian que la combinación de modulación, adaptación y reestructuración sintáctica favorece la claridad y la fluidez del texto meta, mientras que la IA aporta cohesión y uniformidad, aunque presenta limitaciones frente a referencias culturales. Se concluye que es posible lograr una traducción neutra que mantenga el impacto del relato testimonial, aportando soluciones prácticas a un campo poco explorado en la traductología.

This graduation project, which includes a translation and its corresponding research report, is part of the Master's Program in English-Spanish Translation at the Universidad Nacional (Costa Rica). The project focuses on the neutral and translation into English of Invisibles, historias de adolescentes que cometieron homicidio2. The study is based on a corpus of the first seventy pages of the novel to analyze the best strategies for preserving the testimonial realism of the work for an American English-speaking readership, without sacrificing reader comprehension. The primary objective is to achieve a translation that strikes a balance between cultural neutrality and narrative fidelity, accomplished through the specific goals aimed at resolving lexical, syntactic, and cultural challenges. The theoretical framework is grounded in Eugene Nida's theory of dynamic equivalence (1960), complemented by a functionalist approach. The project's methodology consisted of an initial translation process, a comparative analysis between different versions, the application of various translation techniques, post-editing with artificial intelligence, and, finally, feedback from external reviewers. The results show that the combination of modulation, adaptation, and syntactic restructuring enhances the clarity and fluidity of the target text. It was evident that artificial intelligence contributes to text cohesion and uniformity, although it has clear limitations when handling cultural references. The conclusion is that it is possible to achieve a neutral translation that preserves the impact of the testimonial narrative, thereby providing practical solutions to a field that has been relatively underexplored in translation studies.
