This graduate work is constituted by the translation into Spanish of the papers: "Is There a 'Boy Crisis' in School?" by Michael Kimmel and "Transgender in a Global Frame" by Judith "Jack" Halberstam, both presented at the I International University Congress: Genders, Feminisms and Diversities (GEFEDI) held in June 2011 in San José, Costa Rica and its corresponding research report. The role of translation in the processes of training and professional updating in the field of sociology is contextualized based on the translation process required by both papers. Existing theory linked to translation is reviewed in three specific areas: translation teaching in general, specialized translation in different fields, and specialized translation in the field of sociology. This research develops an extensive analysis of the extratextuality of the corpus, as well as the macro and microstructural elements that compose it and the importance of these in relation to the characteristics of sociological discourse. The proposal offered by this research is to enrich translatological studies from "non-conventional" approaches such as sociology, and the valuation of translation as a key tool for the processes of academic and professional training in different fields is proposed.
