Analyze economic factors, family integration, academic preparation, and whether there are addiction problems in the families of students that may influence student repetition in the 2002 school year, in cycles I and II of the Villa Ligia Schools in circuit 03, Mercedes in circuit 06, and Desamparados in circuit 08, belonging to the Regional Education Directorate of Pérez Zeledón. This is a descriptive seminar with a quantitative paradigm. Three data collection instruments were applied to a population of 100% of the students who failed in the 2000 school year, their parents, and their teachers. The research concludes that economic factors have a direct or indirect impact on grade repetition, and that this, combined with the absence of the father in the home, is a factor that negatively influences the child's academic performance. It was also found that the level of education of the parents or guardians of children who repeat grades is low.
