Onychophorans are considered “living fossils” because their morphology has changed very little for more than 500 million years and they have maintained an evolutionary stage apparently intermediate between annelids and arthropods. Here its biology is analyzed, following the evolutionary history of the group from the Cambrian to the present, with special emphasis on the current state of little knowledge of the species of the Central American isthmus.
