This research pretends to contribute to the review-transformation of the educational processes, from an intercultural perspective. It is based on the analysis of regulations linked to some Costa Rican celebrations and their given role in formal education. The legal instruments analyzed include those that, since the 1960s, imply an interpretation of the so-called “discovery of America” and a reading of the ethnic and cultural diversity of Costa Rica. This analysis allows us to perceive an incipient recognition and appreciation of diversity that, however, has not broken off the persistence of educational practices loaded with cultural violence
