Quality management in higher education entails recognizing the various elements that influence all aspects of university life. A significant portion of quality assessment systems in higher education tend to focus primarily on macroprocesses related to academic, administrative, and institutional resource management, as well as other forms of substantive functions. However, one of the key issues in quality management within higher education institutions—student well-being—is often overlooked. From this perspective, the objective was to highlight how student well-being constitutes an intrinsic factor in the quality of university governance. To this end, the theoretical and methodological foundations underlying the Student Life Model of the National University of Costa Rica were revisited to validate this proposition. The analysis enabled the identification of core elements of student well-being that are directly linked to the fulfillment of the university’s mission, with particular emphasis on the principle of equity. It was concluded that equity and student well-being are closely intertwined, and that acceptable levels of quality in higher education cannot be achieved without considering this interrelationship, which permeates the entire academic and professional development cycle of the student population.
