Manejo de aguas y aguas residuales en una pequeña unidad productiva-doméstica

Abstract

En este trabajo se evaluó el manejo de aguas y aguas residuales que realiza un pequeño productor de la zona de Escazú en su unidad productiva — doméstica. Se realizaron seis muestreos en los que se analizó el sistema de tratamiento de aguas residuales, mediante la medición de la demanda bioquímica de oxígeno, demanda química de oxígeno, fosfato, nitrato, sólidos totales, sólidos sedimentables, turbiedad, pH y coliformes fecales. El sistema resultó muy eficiente en la remoción de materia orgánica y nutrientes, no así en cuanto a coliformes fecales. Con base en los resultados obtenidos se plantearon opciones de mejoramiento, se sistematizó el proceso y se abstrajeron los elementos que lo caracterizan, para favorecer su utilización en otras unidades productivasdomésticas similares. Asimismo, se realizaron tres muestreos en el cuerpo receptor, el Río Catalina, en las épocas de transición seca — lluviosa, lluviosa y transición lluviosa — seca, en los que se evaluó la calidad del agua mediante los parámetros oxígeno disuelto, demanda bioquímica de oxígeno, fosfato, nitrato, sólidos totales, turbiedad, pH, coliformes fecales y organismos macrobentónicos. La calidad se expresó mediante dos índices: el Índice de Calidad de Agua de la Fundación Nacional de Sanidad de los Estados Unidos de América (ICAFNS), basado en mediciones físicas, químicas y bacteriológicas, y el Índice Biológico BMPW-CR (Biological Monitoring Party, modificado para Costa Rica), fundamentado en la clasificación de organismos macrobentónicos. En términos generales, el Río Catalina presentó una buena calidad, durante el período de muestreo.

In this work, the management of water and wastewater carried out by a small producer in the Escazú area in his productive unit - domestic was evaluated. Six samples were taken in which the wastewater treatment system was analyzed by measuring biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, phosphate, nitrate, total solids, settleable solids, turbidity, pH and fecal coliforms. The system was very efficient in the removal of organic matter and nutrients, but not in terms of fecal coliforms. Based on the results obtained, improvement options were proposed, the process was systematized and the elements that characterize it were abstracted, to favor its use in other similar domestic production units. Likewise, three samplings were carried out in the receiving body, the Catalina River, in the periods of dry transition - rainy, rainy and rainy transition - dry, in which the quality of the water was evaluated through the parameters dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand , phosphate, nitrate, total solids, turbidity, pH, fecal coliforms and macrobenthic organisms. The quality was expressed through two indices: the Water Quality Index of the National Sanitation Foundation of the United States of America (ICAFNS), based on physical, chemical and bacteriological measurements, and the Biological Index BMPW-CR (Biological Monitoring Party , modified for Costa Rica), based on the classification of macrobenthic organisms. In general terms, the Catalina River presented a good quality during the sampling period.
