(ASOVIAMCO).
The project was developed at the Finca Experimental Santa Lucía located in Barva, Heredia, Costa Rica. The general objective was to develop and operate a breeding program through assisted reproduction in small ruminants. Specific objectives were grouped into three areas: genetics, reproductive and technology transfer. In the area of genetics, economically important production traits were evaluated in sheeps. Linear assessment methodology in dairy goats was established. Once done this, the nucleus of improvement were formed. In the breeding area, a laboratory was equipped and protocols adapted to train male, estrus synchronization, artificial insemination with fresh and frozen semen, as well were prepared freezing semen. In the area of technology, transfer workshops, field trips and printed material. The project developed an important linkage with Cooperativa de Productores de Leche de Cabra de la Zona Norte (COOPECAPRINA R.L) and Asociación Ovicaprina Ambientalista Costarricense (ASOVIAMCO).
