This study analyzes the administrative strategies used by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism sector of Pérez Zeledón during the 2022–2024 period. Its purpose is to identify practices that enhance competitiveness and market positioning at both local and international levels. A qualitative methodology with descriptive and explanatory scope was applied through surveys conducted with 181 SMEs across the canton’s 12 districts. Findings reveal low levels of business formalization, limited use of advanced technological tools, and little awareness of institutional resources such as PROCOMER and non-reimbursable funds. Nevertheless, there is a growing adoption of digital marketing strategies. The study concludes that SMEs face structural barriers that hinder their development, yet they also show potential for improvement through training, formalization, and institutional coordination. It is recommended to implement business strengthening programs, improve dissemination of available resources, and promote internationalization of the sector.
