Resumen
Costa Rica se ubica en el Istmo
Centroamericano, cuenta
Costa Rica is located on the Isthmus Central American, account with a land area of 51,100 km2 and an extension maritime of 589,000 km2. He country borders to the Southeast with the Republic of Panama, to the Northeast with the Republic of Nicaragua, to the West with the Pacific Ocean and to the East with the Caribbean Sea (Flores 1991). Costa Rica is geographically dominated by two coasts and a series of mountains with orientation northeast-southeast that cover about half of the territory and that influence the particularity of its characteristics climatic. In conjunction with its geographical position, the diversity Costa Rica's microclimates determine its impressive biodiversity. With an equivalent territory at 0.03% of the earth's surface, is considered as one of the 20 countries in the world with the greatest wealth of wildlife species. It is estimated that there are more than 500,000 species in the country, which corresponds to 4% of global biodiversity (sensu Obando 2001).
