The present work consists of the compilation of information and analysis of the results obtained from the clinical cases treated at the Intensivet Veterinary Hospital (HVI) and the Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres (HEMS) of the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica. The internship was carried out in the services of soft tissue surgery and internal medicine in company species in the period from January 3 to February 4, 2022, at the HVI and from February 6 to March 4, 2022, at the HEMS, for a total of 9 weeks, completing 400 hours of internship. During the internship, a total of 227 cases were attended, of which 132 (58%) were admitted to the HVI and the remaining 95 (42%) to the HEMS, 202 patients were canines and 25 felines. In both HVI and HEMS, the main reason for consultation in canines was associated with the digestive system (35%), while in felines it was the urinary system (28%). On the other hand, a total of 777 complementary tests were carried out, 403 corresponding to HVI and 374 to HEMS, the most performed were the complete blood count (29%), blood biochemistry (23%), abdominal ultrasound (15%) and radiographs (12%). The student participated in a total of 93 soft tissue surgeries, 41 in the HVI and 52 in the HEMS. In both hospitals, surgeries associated with the reproductive system (n= 26) together with those of the digestive system (n= 24) were the ones that predominated, followed by those of the integumentary-musculoskeletal system in HIV viii (n= 4) and by oncological surgeries (n= 9) in the case of HEMS. In HVI, the most frequently performed surgery was orchiectomy, while in HEMS it was splenectomy.
