Abstract

Las Asociaciones administradoras de los Sistemas de Acueductos y Alcantarillados comunales, también conocidas como ASADAS, ascienden a más de 2.000 organizaciones comunales de gran valor estratégico y se dedican a gestionar sin fines de lucro de manera sustentable, el agua con los miembros activos de las comunidades en Costa Rica. Esta iniciativa propone la creación de una Comisión técnica para el Manejo de la Cuenca del río Sarapiquí, compuesta por: Los representantes de las ASADAS, Organizaciones Locales Gubernamentales y No-Gubernamentales. Su estrategia de acción sería evaluar las condiciones actuales de la cuenca del Río Sarapiquí, basada en informes previos técnicos del CATIE, el TEC, Universidades Estatales y la Municipalidad. Así como, proponer iniciativas concretas de gestión: Reforestación de las nacientes, Recuperar la cobertura boscosa en las fuertes pendientes y márgenes del río y por supuesto, en Áreas críticas de la cuenca y Programas sobre educación ambiental y ecoeficiencia. Mediante las acciones de esa comisión, la Universidad Nacional UNA, pretende la construcción y diseño de mejoras en el ordenamiento territorial para la gestión del recurso hídrico del Cantón y Cuenca del Río Sarapiquí, con el apoyo de 14 ASADAS que la conforman: Horquetas, Las lloronas, San Ramón, Puerto Viejo, La Delia, Huetáres, San Bernardino, Estero Grande, Chilamate, Colonia Carbajal, Pablo Plesbére, Cristo Rey, la Virgen San Ramón y la Virgen Puerto Viejo, como un proyecto interinstitucional.
