The sociopolitical participation of older adults is the central focus of this research, which aims to promote this perspective at the Barva Day Center in Heredia. Therefore, the previous experiences of this population are identified in terms of their participation in previous years or during their time as older adults. Furthermore, their self-perception is of great interest in this work, in order to understand different opinions about what it really means to be an older adult today. This research project is qualitative and has a socio-educational focus. Research on the older population is limited to improving the health of older adults and measuring the percentage of this population. Therefore, there is a gap in qualitative research aimed at improving the civic participation of this population in society. This work seeks to generate a more comprehensive perception of this population; where stereotypes and erroneous thoughts that promote discrimination, mistrust, and the underutilization of these individuals' physical and cognitive abilities are avoided. There is no doubt that the growth of this population is increasing, and we are all following the same path; therefore, it is necessary to reclaim and transform these misleading beliefs and generate trust through institutional and organizational instruments that promote and facilitate the actions of older adults in social and political affairs for the benefit of the community. Regarding theoretical affiliations, they are divided into four categories of analysis: spaces for participation and sociopolitical practices of the older adult population, the self-perception of older adults as sociopolitical subjects, the inclusion of older adults in the full exercise of their citizenship, and Critical Theory as transformative action.
