The text analyzes how Costa Rica has constructed myths about its identity, including the image of a "green" country, which obscures problems such as agricultural unsustainability, uncontrolled tourism, and urban decay. It exposes the process of accelerated deforestation between 1940 and 1980 and the subsequent forest recovery since the 1990s thanks to environmental policies. It compares the 1970s vision, based on the "rational use" of resources, with the current one, focused on conservation and the "green republic." Finally, it warns that these myths limit the true understanding of environmental problems and raises the need for more critical and socially participatory management.
