Cooperativism is a global phenomenon; it is estimated that there are “approximately 800 million members in more than 100 countries around the world and they represent the livelihood of more than 3 billion people: 49 thousand financial cooperatives provide services to 177 million partners in 96 countries” (Bautista Galicia, 2012, p.7). The above exemplifies the reach that this movement has had. Cooperativism is considered a social movement. Coope Ande (2018) states that: “Cooperativism is a social movement that promotes the voluntary association of people seeking their benefit and that of their community” (s. p.), which promotes the voluntary brotherhood of partners, to achieve a common benefit. In addition, they are non-profit organizations, governed by the principle of equality among all involved, who hold the same rights and duties. According to Herrera and Mahecha (2018), it is necessary for resources to: “Be used efficiently in meeting the needs of citizens and contribute to public deliberation not being distorted by pressures from particular interests” (p. 40). As the cooperative movement seeks the benefit of all its members, it is necessary to manage the information of the entity. To provide clarity in data manipulation to beneficiaries, it is important to carry out this process in a serious, orderly and committed manner, through a strategic plan. With transparency, the organization shows society how it acts and thus avoids possible criticism or value judgments.
