It should be noted that there is a wide and varied relationship between Martí and the countries of Latin America, including Costa Rica, which is not usually studied in its entirety and with new perspectives. Usually, when Martí is mentioned, he is associated only with Cuba, Spanish colonialism and the incipient US imperialism, without delving into his roots and his impact on collective realities such as the Costa Rican one. He also mentions that from the end of the 19th century, famous Cubans such as Antonio Zambrana and the Maceo brothers sought refuge in Costa Rica, helping to spread the cause and ideas of the patriot Martí. This made Costa Rica a favourable scenario for the preparation of the Cuban War of Independence of 1895-1898.
