For ornamental, pesticide, industrial, medicinal, cosmetic and other purposes. In Costa Rica, particularly in the remote regions of the Central Valley, the practice of using home remedies based on medicinal plants has made it possible to inherit from generation to generation a knowledge that is often empirical about the healing properties of plants and that in most cases have been transmitted verbally. Currently, the high costs of some medicines make medicinal plants a viable alternative for people with low economic resources and, in addition, they offer a solution to the side effects caused by the use of drugs based on synthetic products. Additionally, the use of medicinal plants allows us to encourage and preserve our medicinal flora and seek the sustainability of the ecological system of Costa Rica. The graduation project aims to make use of technological tools that facilitate the collection, validation, storage, maintenance and dissemination of the knowledge inherited by our ancestors, regarding medicinal plants, their relationship with human diseases and homemade recipes based on medicinal plants used to treat these diseases.
