Teak is the species with the largest planted area for commercial forestry production in Costa Rica and through the present investigation the growth under different levels of competition in clonal plantations was studied. For this, two trials were established (Finca Limbo and Finca Frontera) in Santa Cecilia de La Cruz, Guanacaste province, Costa Rica. The experimental design consisted of five blocks with four basal area reduction treatments (0%, 15%, 30%, 45%), distributed at random. An analysis of variance was applied for the annual current increase in normal diameter, total height, basal area and total volume, in addition to the Tukey mean test (α = 0.05) as multiple comparator. The results indicate that T45 and T30 were statistically superior to T0 and T15, in addition the statistical analyzes suggest a direct relationship between the decrease in basal area and the increases in the dasometric variables. Based on the above, it is left to the forester's discretion to reduce the basal area by 45% or 30% in the first intervention of the mass, after analyzing the conditions itself. Likewise, the results suggest establishing initially from 450 trees ha-1 to 570 trees ha-1 as a maximum in the next plantations under similar conditions and genetic material.
