Resumen
El presente documento describe una pasantía en bovinos especializados en la producción de
leche, realizada en la zona del Volcán Poás y Vara Blanca, provincias de Alajuela y
Heredia, Costa Rica. La duración de la misma abarcó un período teórico-práctico de tres
meses (enero, febrero y marzo del 2013), en los cuales se trabajó en programas de visita en
aproximadamente 20 fincas lecheras, que están bajo los protocolos de salud de hato de los
tutores.
El trabajo realizado consistió en la participación, abordaje y posterior clasificación de las
actividades desarrolladas durante las visitas, de acuerdo al área de atención veterinaria
correspondiente. Se obtuvo un importante volumen de casuística, principalmente en el área
de salud de hato con un total de 1927 casos.
También durante el desarrollo de la pasantía se implementó el uso de la ecografía
abdominal diagnóstica, como complemento al examen clínico realizado por el médico
veterinario. La mayor cantidad de casos correspondieron al diagnóstico ultrasonográfico de
retículo peritonitis traumática, abarcando el 76,9% de los exámenes ejecutados.
This paper describes an internship in specialized dairy cattle, at the Poás and Vara Blanca area, Alajuela and Heredia, Costa Rica. The duration of the period covered three months (January, February and March 2013). Programed visits were carried out in about 20 dairy farms, which are under herd health veterinarian’s protocols. The work consisted of participation, examination and subsequent classification of activities during the visits, according to the veterinary attention area. A significant amount of casuistry, mainly in the herd health area, 1927 cases were covered. Also during the course of the internship, the use of diagnostic abdominal ultrasound was implemented as an adjunct to clinical examination performed by the veterinarian. Most cases involved the ultrasonography diagnosis of traumatic reticulo peritonitis, covering 76.9% of the tests performed.
