This study describes if in Costa Rica the mast cell tumor in dogs is connected with to some characteristics referenced in the literature, like breed, sex, age and affected anatomic areas. The histopathological degree with which every tumor was identified was documented. For this analyzes a chronological study was made from January of 2000 to December of 2004, a total of five years were checked. All the files from the Pathology Laboratory, of Universidad Nacional. All the dogs who have had biopsies were chosen, 4831 in total, 1388 dogs showed some tumor and 170 were mast cell tumors. The mast cell tumor clinics signs were investigated, too. And their possible clinical therapy has been done by professionals in this area. This study found that mast cell tumor is the most common skin tumor in dogs; the tumors well differentiated are diagnostic with most frequency. The females were more reported, the old dogs were more that adult animals and young animals. And finally the most reported anatomic area damaged was the trunk.
