This research reflects on the sustainable community development based on the experience of youth organization Grupo Arte y Cultura that advances its activities in the town of Ciudad Bolívar, Bogotá, Colombia. This group arises in an economically marginalized territory of the urban center and in the middle of the armed confrontation derived from the Colombian armed conflict. Its original intention was to provide children and young people of the town with playful options in which they could move away from the tensions experienced in their territory. With the passage of time and the experience gained the group began to orient towards youth participation and the construction of scenarios and communication channels that allowed this population to influence the transformation of the locality. Today, with more than ten years of existence, the Art and Culture Group is an example of perseverance and work based on the paradigm of sustainable community development. The methodology used to examine this experience was qualitative, based on the organization of group workshops to systematize and reactivate memories, semi-structured interviews and observation exercises. The main axis through which the information was reconstructed was the systematization of the group's experience based on participatory work. As a result, we obtained a series of narratives from members of this group that account for their bets, procedures, conflicts and learning. In terms of sustainable community development, it can be concluded that the Art and Culture Group generates processes of autonomy in which young people are empowered by their lives, bet on the transformation of their territory and build social relations that are governed by the principles of solidarity, respect and peace.
