This publishing project aimed to portray, from an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspective, the inequalities that the economic and social system produces in the care system, which severely impacts increasingly aging societies where the population replacement rate is not being met, as is the case in Costa Rica and Spain. Within this framework, the "New Readings of Central America" program of the Institute of Social Studies in Population at the National University of Costa Rica and the Pedagogical University of El Salvador developed the call for papers that gave rise to this book, with the objective of broadening and deepening the debates on care and gender. This effort also forms part of both universities' commitment to addressing social problems, generating collaborative research networks, and pursuing institutional internationalization.
