It was in the mid-80s. He had read one of his first works that came to our country, Historia. Analysis of the past and social project. In it, the author made a critical reading of the evolution of history as a task from ancient times to the present, and in doing so, he drew the clear relationship between those who had the power and the way of understanding history in each one. of the places. the analyzed times. His classes were masterful, he arrived on time with the class prepared in writing and presented and exposed. Of course, by himself, he knew how to explain in the simplest language and never humiliated a student. In their classrooms I verified what I already knew, the classroom is a space to build knowledge together, to accommodate those who know and be their support, guarantee the free expression of ideas in an environment of respect, tolerance and a constructive and solid spirit. Magisterial lessons that are given to us here, his critical spirit emerges even with his own old visions and teaches us the need to be constantly in the light of new advances, to be rereading the past with the intention of discovering new paths that allow us. to understand and reread the present. He was very concerned about making it clear what role the historian had to play in the midst of the society in which he lived. Sometimes he did it from a very historiographical point of view, “making use of the trade” as when he said: “Among those who deal with the profession of studying society, the historian is distinguished by the fact that only he cares about everyone the dimensions. of man and all the rhythms of time: evolution secular and the succession of daily events, the struggle for subsistence and collective aspirations. Other researchers, their neighbors at work, are in charge of analyzing the economic, administrative or legal organization of artistic expression. It is up to the historian to give a global explanation of human events, above any compartmentalisation. You will use, among other materials, the results provided by other disciplines and you will also be able to use some of their methods to solve specific problems that are similar to those posed by them. But as its most specific object, the global explanation, it does not share it with anyone, it will only be able to solve its great problems by itself and with its own methodological instruments ”. I share with him his vision of the totality, and although I would say that it is not exclusive to the historian, it is exclusive to analysis in historical perspective. That way of understanding his trade made him a human being interested in the course of world events in the 20th century and what is happening today. He had taken the pulse of the world situation, and that is clearly seen, in the works that in his last years he dedicated to the last century and the present
