Optimización del plan de gestión integral de residuos sólidos de los procesos operativos de grupo Britt, Costa Rica

Resumen
El presente estudio pretende reducir de manera considerable la cantidad de residuos sólidos
que Grupo Britt Costa Rica envía hacia rellenos sanitarios. Esto, mediante el establecimiento de
propuestas de mejora que optimicen la gestión en la cadena de suministros, así como el ofrecimiento
de herramientas que involucren a los colaboradores de la empresa en este tema. Para dicho propósito,
se realizó un diagnóstico del manejo que reciben los residuos sólidos, el cual abarca un estudio de
generación y composición de los residuos, mapas de procesos, entrevistas, entre otros. A partir del
diagnóstico realizado, se logró determinar que las principales oportunidades de mejora se encuentran
relacionadas con tres temas: a) la evaluación de técnicas para el tratamiento y disposición final de los
residuos orgánicos generados b) la redistribución de los espacios e incorporación de categorías de
residuos sólidos en el centro de acopio con su respectiva rotulación, así como el establecimiento de
una estrategia para registrar los residuos sólidos que ingresan y salen, segregados por ubicación, área
o proceso c) la educación ambiental e involucramiento de los colaboradores en el proceso. Con el fin
de atender las oportunidades de mejora mencionadas, se realizó un análisis técnico y financiero de
tres técnicas distintas para el tratamiento de residuos orgánicos. También se elaboraron planes de
Gestión Integral de Residuos Sólidos (GIRS) para cada una de las ubicaciones, acompañados de un
instructivo en donde se detalla cómo se debe realizar la segregación, transporte, almacenamiento,
registro y disposición final de los residuos sólidos. Sumado a lo anterior, se realizó un ajuste en la
asignación de los espacios del centro de acopio, se incorporaron nuevos recipientes con su respectiva
rotulación y se fortalecieron los procesos de capacitación a nuevos colaboradores.
