Resumen
Este valioso texto titulado Masones y masonería en la Costa Rica de los albores de la modernidad (1865-1899)1 se encuentra dividido en 5 capítulos. El primero titulado, “La construcción ideológica de la masonería hasta su organización en Costa Rica”, introduce a la masonería. Este apartado hace un recorrido desde el origen de la agrupación, pasando por los gremios de albañiles en el medievo, los procesos que se dieron a lo interno de la masonería durante el Renacimiento, la Reforma y Contrarreforma, la Revolución Industrial, la Ilustración y cierra con la visión moderna construida en el siglo XVIII. La importancia de este capítulo radica en contextualizar al lector sobre qué era y de qué se trataba la masonería, lo cual se logra por medio de explicaciones que van desde el mismo nombre de la asociación, pasando por sus símbolos, principios básicos, creencia de los masones en Costa Rica, su organización, hasta las causas de los roces con el credo católico.
This valuable text entitled Masons and Freemasonry in Costa Rica at the dawn of modernity (1865-1899) 1 is divided into 5 chapters. The first entitled, "The ideological construction of Freemasonry until its organization in Costa Rica", introduces Freemasonry. This section takes a tour from the origin of the group, passing through the masons' guilds in the Middle Ages, the processes that occurred within Freemasonry during the Renaissance, the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, the Industrial Revolution, the Enlightenment and closes with the modern vision built in the 18th century. The importance of this chapter lies in contextualizing the reader about what Freemasonry was and what it was about, which is achieved through explanations that go from the name of the association, through its symbols, basic principles, beliefs of the Masons in Costa Rica, their organization, even the causes of friction with the Catholic creed.
