Abstract. Cloud computing represents a concept in which resources are obtained from a network and on demand, this implies a change in the paradigm in which information technology applications are managed. For this reason, many companies migrate their applications without taking into account the implications in terms of architecture and without a clear guide of best practices depending on the needs they have. This can affect the feasibility analysis, where the return on investment (ROI) and the total cost of the solution (TCO) must be properly calculated since there are components that are often not taken into account from the beginning such as additional costs or savings possibilities that could represent moving their applications to the cloud architecture. The 3 main areas that are impacted are: Infrastructure, application development model and data privacy. The model chosen, whether Infrastructure, Platform or Software as a Service, is the most significant factor, since it can represent great savings in terms of maintenance, physical space and licensing. This will determine the cost model based on resource utilization. Additionally, particular needs regarding dedicated equipment, networks, or storage may represent an additional cost. As for the development model, it should be analyzed whether it is necessary to change to one that takes better advantage of the benefits of the cloud (microservices or native applications). The benefit will not always be greater than the cost since it requires significant effort and training for developers. Finally, regarding the privacy of information and the legal implications of having information in the cloud, it is necessary to know the type of information being handled, the nature of the application industry, and the current legislation for data protection both in the country where the information resides and those who use it. The following work presents a compilation of best practices for migrating applications to the cloud and their implications in terms of calculating the return on investment and the total cost of the solution
