The theme of this paper is “Higher Education in the Regional Section of Perez Zeledon and University Dropout”. As we and other students of this same institution, we have noticed and found many failures that occur within the same, and we can say that among them is the problem of education that is taught in the Regional Section and the desertion of students, which usually occurs at the beginning of the entrance to the university; this is a problem that affects both the student, causing frustration, for being unable, and also affects society, generating a large mass of frustrated youth that is not usable in its entirety, causing this a loss of resources. For this we have delimited our theme from 1973, when the National University was founded, until the present year of 1982, centralizing our investigation in itself, in our university institution. In this way, we have tried to verify the following objectives: a. To have a vision of the creation of the Regional Section in Perez Zeledon. b. To become familiar with the current structure of the Regional Section of Perez Zeledon and if the teaching that is given is in accordance with the needs of the region. c. To know the ideology that predominates in the Regional Section with emphasis on the study of the bourgeois ideology and its influence on the social classes within the University. d. To have a brief vision of what will be the future professional role of the graduates of the present system of higher education. e. To determine the causes of the desertion of the students of the Regional Section. f. To make known the effects of desertion for the students in the general community of the region. We have divided our monograph into five chapters, where the first one presents the conceptual and operational definition of our research; the second chapter talks about Higher Education in Costa Rica, exposing how education in the university has been taking place within the capitalist system; the third chapter talks about the creation of the National University and the Regional Section, concluding with the current structure of our institution; the fourth chapter deals with the teaching that takes place in the Regional Section; and finally the fifth chapter covers the problem of desertion, revealing its causes and effects. We hope that this work will contribute in some way to the development of new research in this field.
