Resumen
La presente investigación reviste una gran importancia ya que va íntimamente ligada con el mejoramiento de la educación costarricense. En el censo de población del año 1973, se detectó en el país un grave problema dentro de nuestro sistema educativo. El censo demostró que en el país existía un 11.4% de costarricenses sin ninguna escolaridad (analfabetas) y que un 57% de la población adulta no había completado la Enseñanza General Básica. Ante esta cruda realidad, se puso en marcha en el año 1975, el Plan Nacional de Alfabetización y Educación Básica por Suficiencia, entre cuyos grandes objetivos destacan: a). Desterrar el Analfabetismo y la Educación Básica Incompleta. b). Promover la Formación Integral del Adulto para que se integre a las tareas del desarrollo económico y social de nuestro país. Sin embargo, uno de los problemas más graves que afronta el plan en la práctica, es el alto índice de deserción de los alumnos que ingresan al Programa. El propósito de esta investigación es detectar las causas reales que generan el alto grado de deserción en el Programa Nacional de Alfabetización y Educación Básica por Suficiencia en el Cantón de Pérez Zeledón, durante el año 1985, a la vez que se propondrán varias alternativas de solución al problema.
This research is of great importance as it is closely linked to the improvement of Costa Rican education. In the 1973 population census, a serious problem was detected in the country's education system. The census showed that 11.4% of Costa Ricans had no schooling (illiterate) and that 57% of the adult population had not completed basic general education. Faced with this harsh reality, the National Plan for Literacy and Basic Education for Sufficiency was launched in 1975, with the following main objectives: a). To eradicate illiteracy and incomplete basic education. b). To promote comprehensive adult education so that adults can participate in the economic and social development of our country. However, one of the most serious problems facing the plan in practice is the high dropout rate among students who enter the program. The purpose of this research is to identify the real causes of the high dropout rate in the National Literacy and Basic Education for Sufficiency Program in the canton of Pérez Zeledón during 1985, while proposing several alternative solutions to the problem.
