Lista Oficial de las Aves de Costa Rica Actualización 2016

Abstract

Resumen. Describimos los cambios para el período comprendido entre Octubre 2015 a Setiembre 2016 en la Lista Oficial de las Aves de Costa Rica y la Isla del Coco, cumpliendo de esta manera catorce años de actualizar y publicar la lista de aves más actualizada y completa del país, la cual registra a la fecha un total de 918 especies reconocidas como Oficiales. Durante este proceso de actualización recibimos y analizamos diez propuestas (Formularios) y 35 fotografías. En esta actualización incluimos cuatro nuevos registros para Costa Rica: Sterna dougallii Roseate Tern, Zenaida auriculata Eared Dove, Syrigma sibilatrix Whistling Heron, y Streptopelia decaocto Eurasian Collared Dove; cambiamos el estatus de Sterna paradisaea Arctic Tern, Rallus longirostris Clapper Rail y Lepidopyga coeruleogularis Sapphire-throated Hummingbird. Además, se revisaron los nombres comunes en español y en casos donde existían dos opciones, escogimos un único nombre. Adicionalmente, se efectuaron dos correcciones a nombres ya incluidos en la Lista Oficial. Finalmente, durante esta actualización, actualizamos nuevamente la revisión del estatus taxonómico, nombres científicos y nombres en inglés de todas las especies incluidas en la Lista, según la actualización más reciente del NACC-AOU; hacemos un llamado a la comunidad ornitológica a prestar atención a estos cambios ya que modifican sustancialmente las listas anteriores.Abstract. We present the changes to the Official List of Birds of Costa Rica and Cocos Island for the period October 2015 through September 2016. In fourteen years of publishing and updating, the country’s most complete bird list now registers 918 officially recognized species. In the most recent updating process we received and analyzed ten proposal forms and 35 photographs. In this update we include four new records for Costa Rica: Syrigma sibilatrix Whistling Heron, Sterna dougallii Roseate Tern, Streptopelia decaocto Eurasian Collared Dove, and Zenaida auriculata Eared Dove; and we changed the status of Sterna paradisaea Arctic Tern, Rallus longirostris Clapper Rail, and Lepidopyga coeruleogularis Sapphire-throated Hummingbird. We also reviewed the Spanish common names for birds and in cases where two options existed we chose just one name. Additionally, two corrections were made to names in the List. Finally, in this latest update, we updated the taxonomy and nomenclature (scientific and English common names) of all the species on the List following the latest NACC-AOU update (July 2016). We urge all members of the ornithological community to take note of these changes as they substantially modify previous lists.
