An internship was carried out between April and June 2024 at a specialized cat medicine veterinary clinic, “Clínica La Gatería” in San José, Costa Rica. In addition, other internship was made between June and July of 2024 at Hospital Clínico Veterinario of the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Spain. Both experiences made a total of 345 hours of practice, carried out with support of doctors from both veterinary centers, making a reinforcement of knowledge and skills in minor species area acquired through academic background of the Veterinary Medicine Career. At Clínica La Gatería 65 cats were examined, being 49.2% of them appointments related to preventive medicine. Otherwise, the second reason of examination were digestive problems with 16.9%. At the Hospital Clínico Veterinario of the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, 107 cases were treated, 80 canines and 27 domestic felines. In this case, most of the consultations involved the digestive system which correspond to 23.4%, followed by the integumentary system, which covered 12.1% of the consultations. During the development of the internship the most used diagnostic tool tests in both vet centers were the abdominal ultrasound, followed by blood chemistries. A difference was appointed between both centers at the third place of tools used, showing that at Clínica La Gatería was the blood count, while in the case of the Hospital Clínico Veterinario of the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona was x-ray diagnostic. This ponders that complementary methods can vary between medical centers. During the extension of the internship, it was possible to reinforce the knowledge and skills acquired through academic training. This goal was achieved by the active participation in consultations, vaccinations, development of additional tests and case discussions.
