The main purpose of this research was to design mediation activities pedagogy for the promotion of scientific thinking skills (CPC) by addressing content related to marine-coastal ecosystems in Rural high schools located in the coastal zone of the South Caribbean of Costa Rica. The same answer to a dominant qualitative approach and to a type of phenomenological study. The population of The study consisted of 72 students from the diversified cycle of the rural high schools of Cahuita, Puerto Viejo and Gandoca, as well as the Biology professor of each of these schools. Two surveys addressed to the students were applied, an interview and a focus group applied to Biology teachers. Among the main results are shows the lack of knowledge on the part of the students about the benefits and characteristics presented by mangroves, beaches and reefs, in turn, recognize their importance for the development of their communities; In addition, they are unaware of the effects of these ecosystems in the tourism, economic and fishing sectors. The activities of pedagogical mediation promoted by the CPCs, teachers do not make use of analogies and metaphors, types of reasoning (inductivism deductivism abductivism), the modeling and solving scientific problems; however, they show some initiatives on the use of scientific language, argumentation and meaningful questions. As products, a didactic project was obtained aimed at Biology teachers to be applied within its lessons and an action plan with three-year projected goals where it is expected that these institutions have Biology professors trained in around the CPCs and disciplinary content of marine-coastal ecosystems. Between the Proposed recommendations are to promote awareness of the benefits, importance and affectations of the marine-coastal ecosystems, so that actions are encouraged for its conservation, sustainable and sustainable use, in turn, contribute to the approach pedagogy of Biology classes to generate competently trained individuals and that they are able to face the needs and demands of society. Also, include Within the training aimed at teachers, tools that address the promotion of CPCs.
