To what extent are faculty ready to participate in the OER movement? The case of the Informatics School, UNA

Abstract

The success and sustainability of the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement depends to a large extent on large-scale participation in the use and production of educational resources. The aim of this paper was to explore faculty staff knowledge and behaviors about OER with a focus on resource sharing attitudes. The study was conducted at the School of Informatics of the National University of Costa Rica. Faculty were invited to respond to a questionnaire. The respondents indicated being open to the idea of sharing their own content and, as in other studies, demonstrated existing practices of sharing resources among their colleagues at the local level. However, there is little knowledge about OER and CC licenses, as well as concern about intellectual property rights, factors that hinder their participation in the movement.

El éxito y la sostenibilidad del Open el movimiento de los recursos educativos (REA) depende en gran medida sobre la participación a gran escala en el uso y producción de recursos educativos. El objetivo de este artículo fue explorar la facultad conocimiento y comportamiento del personal sobre REA con un enfoque en actitudes de intercambio de recursos. El estudio se realizó en la Escuela de Informática de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica. Facultad fueron invitados a responder a un cuestionario. Los encuestados indicó estar abierto a la idea de compartir su propio contenido y como en otros estudios, demostró las prácticas existentes de compartir recursos entre sus colegas a nivel local. Sin embargo, hay hay poco conocimiento sobre las licencias REA y CC, así como preocupación sobre los derechos de propiedad intelectual, factores que dificultan su participación en el movimiento.
