Experimental fishing operations carried out in the inner part of the Gulf of Nicoya with artisanal drifting line (Taiwanese line) have shown that the species composition of the catch is clearly dominated by croakers: Cynoscion squamipinnis (79%) Cynoscion phoxesahufus (8.73%), Isophistus remifer (4.18%), Cynoscion albus (0.37%) and Stellifer erycimba (0.12%), represented 92.4% of a total of 811 captured specimens. 85.11% of the total weight (380.70 kg) corresponded to this same family: Cynoscion squamipinnis (70.19%), Cynoscion phoxesahufus (9.8%), Isophistus remifer (1.62%), Cynoscion albus (3.28%) and Stellifer erycimba (0.22%). It was determined that bycatch is composed of the families: Sphyraenidae (2.83%), Ariidae (2.45%), Carangidae (1.23%) and Triakidae (0.99%) that were contributed by 61 individuals registering 14.82% of the total weight caught.
