Emprende Rural (Rural Entrepreneurship) is an educational strategy that reaches rural areas to formulate and manage training processes oriented to generate human capacities for rural entrepreneurship and microenterprise development. The program focuses on supporting autonomous production activities (self-employment) and strengthening the microenterprise in place to improve its capabilities toward a sustainable business. It also focuses on developing basic business knowledge and skills, enabling people to visualize and take advantage of market opportunities to develop their productive projects. The southern part of the Brunca Region, Costa Rica, has been characterized by containing the largest number of indigenous territories in the country, being one region with high poverty rates and unemployment and, therefore, needing to train its small entrepreneurs in strengthening their productive and administrative capacities. The Boruca indigenous territory, in Buenos Aires Municipality, province of Puntarenas, has an area of 12470 hectares. Its population reaches over 2500 people; not all are of indigenous origin; most of them run their business in trade and agriculture and the production of masks, textiles, and crafts. Boruca has great cultural and tourist importance in the region. The representation of this ethnic group in the production of masks, the evolution it has had throughout its history, and the Danza de los Diablitos (Little Devil’s Dance) have made it a place of interest in the region.
